Business is progressing as usual but we are taking steps to keep staff and clients safe and healthy.

We look forward to hearing from you,

Keep safe,

Tim and Tracy Spencer.

Let the magic begin!

The gardens that we build are not just about hard landscaping (literally the hard bits - stone wood etc) but the planting that surrounds these features and makes a garden an inviting place.

This is what we do

Decking - one of our specialties.

This raised deck and balustrade is built with western red cedar.

We also build and maintain ponds….

This is a pond that we maintain for one of our regular clients.

Our decks are built to the highest standards and the best finish, however what really sets them apart is underneath and out of sight!

Quality where it counts

You may not see it but you will sure know it in a few years if the sub frame is not built properly. There is no substitute for a well built stress engineered frame no matter how wonderful the finish on top.

What we do.

In a nutshell we design and build gardens. Not just any old garden, but gardens that you will love and gardens that we put our heart into. We really care about both the finished job and the processes behind it too, we have been doing this since 1985 and you will be the beneficiary of all that accumulated knowledge, not just the good bits but also the experience that comes from dealing with difficult and awkward situations and turning them into something wonderful.

Please note that all of the gardens depicted on these pages are of our design and construction - no pictures pulled from libraries or off the internet these are the real thing, our work, and we are proud of them!

Specialities.

Over the years we seem to get certain types of jobs that follow us around, either through recommendation from clients friends or garden designers. And of course there are just the jobs that we really enjoy doing and excel at.

Decking

This is something that we have been doing for many years now and having pulled apart (literally!) many other peoples decks we know where to concentrate our abilities for the best finish and the best frame.

Ponds

Again practise makes perfect. We build ponds from scratch as well as repairing existing water features and maintaining them. All filtration systems are hidden from view wherever possible as nobody wants to see the workings, just to enjoy a beautiful pond.

Paving

The most basic and yet one of the most important parts of any garden. Sandstone, basalt, porcelain or granite you name it we will have laid it somewhere. We take no shortcuts, a correct base for each application and all paving laid on a full bed of mortar with the backs of all slabs fully primed. Not the cheapest way to do things but the only way we accept.

Planting

Not just the physical act itself but the selection of the correct plant for the job and site. Tim’s huge experience in the nursery and landscape trades (over 40 years) and Tracy’s eye for detail and colour can really make your garden a sight to behold all year round.

Raised deck

The brief from the client was to repair an existing raised deck that had some rot in it, however upon inspection we found that it was far more rotten than originally supposed and that the original construction methods were suspect in that the whole deck was supported on only one 75mm x 75mm fence post!

After removal a new 75mm x 250mm frame was bolted to the wall with resin anchors and the rest of the frame built away from that. The clients choice of decking was Western red cedar with a balustrade to match, and as you can see this worked out beautifully with a lovely natural wood feel to it and a safe deck that will last for many years.

Tropical planting

We started this one with a blank slate, the path was needed for access down the side of the house as the only other way to the back garden was through the building. As this was the main way through to the fire pit and hot tub area, it was nice to be able to give an air or mystery by screening the view straight through with a luxurious planting of bamboo (all clumping and non invasive species), a large Chusan palm on the corner and the main focal point of the banana, musa basjoo which is pretty hardy and only really requires a tidy up at the end of the year. The whole area here is on an automatic irrigation system which helps with the lush feel. In line with our ethos on irrigation systems, most of it is invisible to the naked eye.

Paving and decking.

In lots of designs that we come across use too many different materials and don’t think of the transition from one element to the next. This is a neat example of how to blend things smoothly from one to the next - no step, no awkward junction of materials but a smooth seamless transition from one part of the garden (wooden decking around a seating area) to a Brazillian basalt path. Simple and effective.

Bespoke fencing

We can manufacture most types of fencing and erect on site to your or your architects design.

Fire pits and hot tubs

A relaxation area with all the toys. Fire pit with 12kw gas fire, floating seats with illumination underneath and a sunken hot tub. Much better in our opinion to sink the hot tub into the ground although this needs doing correctly with the appropriate concrete base underneath and suitable access built in for maintenance.

Garden planting

This photo is of a job that we did many years ago that just goes to show how a very simple uncluttered design is often the best solution.
